Question 4
                           Z- Diary – Opening Sequence
Link to video on Youtube- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgDn-It4d5A

Our Video has been publish on youtube along with annotation On certain scene, on this scene we’ve
presented in the annotation the production/distribution company in a Type writer effect that
established our title Font in courier as we wanted to establish a connection to our main focus in on
the Type writer as the font and style is in courier. The JAW Films stands for the first letters of each
group member which creates a significant link. We Decided to keep the font simple so it’s easier to
for our target audience to be engaged.
The Use of a class room has a connection straight away with our target audience as most age groups
are entitle to free or pay for education these days, and most of the audience are still in or have been
in education before so they can realise that the first set is based in a class room from the tables and
                                            the white board.

Corridors are easily recognise by schools, colleges or even offices especially when bulletin boards are
put up and class room names and numbers, and this can give a sense of nostalgia however with a
menacing figure at the end of the corridor changes that and creates fear and anxiety, as well as the
dim lighting and wide shot establish a silhouette.
The use of soundtrack is by while “she sleeps- our cancer, our courage” is a part of a updated
rock/metal culture today which can easily apply to a group of our target audience however the idea
that it is a fast pace and loud beat as well as becoming calm as to the climactic and subtle in our
                                           opening sequence.

The Use of Diegetic Sounds create a more realistic experience for the audience and since the
typewriter is one of the main focus in my title sequence, the tick tack noises it makes are completely
recognisable and distinctive along with the close up shot of the setting on the table where the main
character is typing, the type writer was inspired by Stanley Kubrick “The Shinning” in one of the
scene’s where the main character was typing in a large hall and the typing noise echoes’ distinctively
around the hall before he attempted to murder his wife. Also we wanted to make this appear that it
wasn’t set in 2012, but in the 70/80’s- when they didn’t have computer or quick gadgets like mobile
                                                 phone.
The Use of a Voice over establishes a Young man’s voice which addresses the young male teacher in
the shot which can engage our audience to a different situation of what is expected from college to
have older staff but having a young adult teacher can develop a relationship that the audience and
the main character may have something in common.

The use of editing on some scene was decided to use straight cuts to make our opening sequence
more to the point, but on certain scene’s we decided to add a softer transitions to imitate this
common idea of a flash back where the change of scene’s wasn’t so straight forward. We added
additive dissolves to make a soft transition and this was inspired by silent house where the main
character realises that she was the killer she was trying to escape from.
In the nest scene, all of the close up shots on the zombie faces were to establish that the infected
zombie are exactly a hundred years old but were actually fresh Students that attended the college
and in most zombie film the age’s would range from young to old but in our film we wanted to
establish that its based mainly on students which can give the connection to our Young audience
that it can be related to them.

Lastly is our Location which appears in our last scene with the use of the camera using a panning
movement on the College which creates a sense of calmness just by its appearance however since
the location is presented but at this point the voice over warns the audience as well as the camera
panning over the college suggests that he’s warning about the college. this would a chaotic moment
of what was seen in the frames before hand and the realisation of the location creates the idea that
a institute of education which is usually thought to be one of the safe places to hide from a zombie
holocaust is actually the source of it.
